On Earth Day

Today is Earth Day.

While the COVID-19 pandemic has given us plenty to worry about in the short term, it’s worth reflecting on the greatest long-term threat of our time: climate change.
We’re all familiar with how travel, energy generation, and heavy industry affect the environment… but how about food? The industry most dependent on climate accounts for over a quarter of global greenhouse emissions! Although Artisan Food Group is a smaller player in the food industry, we take our part very seriously. Consider: plant-based cheese.

While meat consumption takes the most flak for its environmental impact, dairy production is responsible for a whopping 3.4% of the global CO2 emissions- more than aviation and shipping combined! While the industry is taking steps toward reducing its carbon footprint, simply substituting plant-based cheeses for animal-produced ones is an excellent way to cut carbon.

So… today is Earth Day. It’s the one planet we’ve got.
